A Skyline Refuge
Chicago, Illinois
This residence began as a pied-à-terre, a furnished in-city perch for suburban life on the side, before the owners decided to reverse the equation and make the city home. Mid-design, the world shifted, the pandemic hit, plans paused, and then a higher unit in the building became available. What might have been a disruption became an opening, offering ANDREA GOLDMAN a new canvas and a chance to correct what the previous layout had gotten wrong.

The original apartment was dense and divided, with rooms that fought the views instead of framing them. ANDREA GOLDMAN reoriented the entire footprint around light and sightlines, shifting the main living space to the center of the space so that the city now unfolds in every direction. A calm, clean palette anchors the interior, allowing architecture, skyline, and daily life to share the same visual language. Here, a true sanctuary above the streets is revealed—urban, yes, but with an ease and serenity that makes it feel like a retreat.
